Mayor's Message

You will experience a tranquil and beautiful place, from the small hamlets and villages of St. Vincent and Sydenham that remind us of earlier times, to the farms and apple orchards, beaches, bays and harbours that make Meaford one of the most picturesque places in Ontario. Streams and rivers thread their way through the landscape while the Town of Meaford, nestled on the shores of Georgian Bay, represents the best of 19th century Victorian architecture.

Our many heritage sites such as Leith Church (the burial site of Tom Thomson) and the WWII memorial stained glass windows of Christ Anglican Church will delight the history buff. As well, urban Meaford is the location of Beautiful Joe Park, commemorating the dog story by Margaret Marshall Saunders that was the first Canadian book to sell more than a million copies. For outdoor enthusiasts we offer camping, sport fishing, golfing, bird watching and so much more. Hiking or biking along our extensive trail system including the Georgian Trail, Bruce Trail and John Muir “Trout Hollow” Trail is a naturalist’s dream.

Enjoy professional theatre and concerts at the completely renovated Meaford Hall; dine and shop at our many fine establishments. Tie up at our harbour or stay at one of our bed and breakfasts or motels. Camp at Memorial Park, a municipal campground right on the shore of Georgian Bay. Bring the entire family and experience our many seasonal events – Apple Harvest Craft Show, the “Scarecrow Invasion”, Canada Day at Bognor or Leith. Visit us for a day or week or – like many other visitors, decide to stay!

Come and enjoy what Meaford has to offer and experience the warmth and friendliness of our community.

Francis Richardson, Mayor
